To God be the glory great things He has done!

In searching for what it is God is trying to do with us in this unusual season of life, I just realised tonight after putting my 3 children to bed that today I brought glory to God in what I did today!? What did I do, looked after a sick child, got entertained by my 2 year olds antics, played math and spelling games with another and lay around the rest of the day watching movies with the kids, cause I am sick myself! How does that bring glory to God, my purpose in this season is to raise my kids, to be their mom, to nuture them and teach them! So today because I have said no to the ways of the world, have chosen to be home with my kids, have chosen to live with less to do that - I got to bring glory to God by being 'busy in my home' as Proverbs 31 puts it, I didn't have to go to work sick, send my kids to school sick, or call in sick myself, or pay for daycare, no I got to still be mom - I had margain in my life to be sick and to do it with my kids. Thank you Lord for your grace in my life, that frees me to be my childrens mother.

Homeschooling article

This article was sent to me by a non homeschooling parent who has no hard feelings toward homeschoolers. It was recently brought up at Park Day and was asked to be put on the buzz. In light of others opinions...well, we all have an opinion of our own, don't we?! These are opportunities to pray for lost people. When lost people act like they are lost we don't shoot them, we pray. I hesitate to even send it but since several of you wanted it....it is here for you! > > *SONNY SCOTT*> > 6/8/2008 9:39:01 AM> Daily Journal> > You see them at the grocery, or in a discount store.> > It's a big family by today's standards - "just like stair steps," as the > old folks say. Well life has been sweet and we had a wonderful week with our beautiful kids. Daniel finished up school and graduated at scouts, he has been in his first year as a Tiger Scout and has had a blast with David, they do a father-dad thing the first year, they had a graduation down at the lake and David got to present him with his new cap and book as he is now a wolf, he has really enjoyed scouts and enjoyed meeting lots of new homeschool friends.
This weekend Timmy and Daniel finished up their soccer season and very proudly wore their medals they both received. David and I got to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary, our very sweet and kind friends Dan and Marilou took the kids overnight again for us as they so kindly do, so we can get a break once in a while, we had a lovely relaxing quiet evening.

We also celebrated sweet Timmy's 5th birthday this weekend, as I am going to be away for his birthday, we had a Spidey party and he was so excited and the Lord so graciously gave us beautiful weather, we had a lots of his friends over (and mine and Davids too) and the kids played and had an awesome time in our back yard. Thanks for everyone who made it a really special day for him.

David's sister and her family spent the night and David had the kids do the pledge of allegiance this morning as he put the flag out front (today was Memorial Day to remember all those who has served their country in the services -for my SA friends) . Abby was really sweet as usual trying to copy the older kids, then we all headed down to the pool for frigid swimming and a bbq. We had a little tea party for the kids afterwards, Tony seems to have taken a liking to drinking hot tea and requested another tea party before he left today - he remembered it from last summer at our house- and we do it proper english style at our house! it was really sweet, all the kids sat round the table drinking tea (making a mess) and eating leftover birthday cake.

I pray you are all well, I have 4 more days till I leave on my trip, following I have posted some prayer requests for our trip.

Have a blessed day y'all!!

We are leaving Knoxville this Friday morning bright and early at 6am. We have a very long and arduous trip to get there, and Lord willing it will be a safe and uneventful one.

I want to thank you all for your support as my friends whether you supported me as a friend, financially, caring for my kids, feeding my family, praying for us. I am blessed by each of you individually and know I could not have done it without everyones help in fighting the unseen spiritual battles that have been going on in our preparation for this trip. The Lord has made the way very clear and continued to open doors along the way and provide for me and allowed me to see my part in this trip and that it is completely His doing and not mine.

I ask that you continue to pray and intercede for us - we will be leaving Fri May 30 and returning Thurs 19 June, there are 11 of us going.

I also ask that you pray for my family, for their safety and health, and strength for David till I get back. that they feel loved and cared for in my absence (you guys did such an awesome job last time) and that the kids see the Lord in this endeavor and that His purpose may prevail and that those who who don't have full understanding of what I am doing will truly see Him be glorified through this and that through that they may grow in their faith.

I love you guys and thank you for being a part of my life.
With much love in the Lord
Jackie

Well, sorry for the long interruption and no new posts, have had a lot going on and I have been trying to pace my time between my responsibilities so I don't get burnt out.
22 days and counting down to Zim 2008!! very exciting especially with all that is going on there right now, I keep asking the Lord and making sure I am not jumping head on in something I have no business being a part of, but our Lord is so gracious and kind and I have truly felt his presence every step of the way, guiding and providing for all of our needs. When you go into a trip like this, the enemy just seems to kick up the warfare and we have been slammed pretty hard the past couple of months, but we held on tight and weathered the storm and came out very much strengthened in our faith and our realisation of our need for God in every detail of our lives.

AUTUMN is winding down her school year and finishing up 7th grade and we are looking forward to some wonderful time with her this summer, David always feels more complete when she is around. It's been really sweet I had kept a few of Autumn's dresses from when she was two and up, and now Abby is starting to wear them - I can't believe Autumn was so little, she is growing into a beautiful woman now.

DANIEL l is also winding down with school not long to go till the end of 1st grade, he is loosing teeth and finally getting used to the idea, the first few were very traumatic, but now he counts down the days till he can get his dollar for his next one. He has been doing scouts this year with a local homeschool pack and it has been so awesome - it has been his favorite thing all year, they just had there first big campout this past weekend.

TIMMY is gearing up for kindergarten, he is still my love bug and just loves to sit with me and soak up the attention (much like his father). Him and Daniel both have been playing soccer this spring and it is so sweet to watch how the 'pack' of kids chases the ball all over the field.

ABBY is growing like a weed - she used the potty for the first time last weekend which is always exciting - especially for me and David as we have officially been changing diapers non stop for over 7 years now!!! She is so sweet and just like her older sister is singing every song her little brain has heard, she likes to 'play' the guitar with David which is just precious and her vocabulary is quite amazing for her age.

Other than that Davids businness is picking up for the summer months, which is always a blessing as the winters get pretty lean up here, I am getting ready for my trip, collecting last minute items for the orphans - we had such a wonderful response at our church to people donating outfits and items for all the kids at the orphanage in Zim - I was quite overwhelmed with the response - the Lord truly does care about all the details of our lives and I am so excited to take everything over and give it to them, some have been orphans all their lives and probably never had anything new, so this is so big I can't wait.

We still continue with our Thursday night bible study at home with a group of friends from church, I have been doing an awesome bible study with some ladies from our church at another local church - called Stepping Up by Beth Moore and it has been so sweet to see how the Lord has met me every day and me through these past couple of months, David has jumped on board to and been doing some of it with me and wow we have truly been in the presence of our Lord!- how great is our God!

PRAYER REQUESTS

*Please be praying for our trip and for my last minute preparations as I get the kids organised with our various friends who are such a blessing in helping out again - Thank you all so much.

*Please pray for safety on our trip especially on the ground over there, for the elections to continue to be peaceable and for God to be so glorified the world will see Him through all that goes on there.

*Please also pray for our luggage to arrive safely and on time, so we can bless those we are going to minister to and meet their physical needs.
*Please pray for food for the people over there, for them to see Gods provision daily and for many to come to know Him through this trying time in their country.

*Please also pray for strength, endurance and health for all the members of our team andf or our individual gifts to shine through and be a blessing to those we come in contact with!
David and I will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary this month - praise the Lord, I pray He continues to watch over us for many more.

Have a blessed day my friends!

Sweet little Abby waiting to blow her candles out!

Dear Lord,
I'm here to love You, to obey you, to glorify You. O my Beloved may I be a joy to You!
Today is my sweet little Abby's 2nd birthday - how privileged we are to be entrusted with the life of another - at times I am overwhelmed with the joy that my children bring me, but other times I am overwhelmed with how much heartache we can cause each other as human beings. In Zimbabwe I was in awe when we got to see giraffes - I had never before seen a real live one that close, they are so beautiful and statuesque, I almost expected Noah to be standing around the corner next to the ark! But how much more beautiful and worthy of our admiration is the one who created our children and all living things. Gods promises are always true, He never has and never will fail us or cause us heartache or dissapointment, when man seems to fail you, look to the One who will never fail you, who will never dissapoint you or let you down!

Aren't you grateful for the delight and privilege of praising our wonderful God, the most beautiful and generous and trustworthy of all beings!
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength." Deuteronomy 6:5

Daniel is 7 Abby almost 2!!

DANIEL - much to his joy and ours is officially 7 years old and had his first sleepover party this past weekend - which was very exciting (and exhausting for mom and dad) for him and his friends.

We also celebrated sweet little ABBY'S 2nd birthday this weekend (yes 2 parties in one weekend) - well I enjoy it - its how I used to make my living - now my children get the benefit of my experience. Anyway Abby was very sweet and busy as usual trying to keep up with everyone and had lots of fun.

Mat 6:34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. " - seems like this is how the Lord is teaching me to trust in His provision - to be obedient each day, to take my thoughts captive and focus on the tasks He places in front of me each day. I can do nothing apart from Him, but I can do all things through Him (Christ) who strengthens me.

Please be praying for supernatural strength for me and my family as David and I seek to teach our children the ways of the Lord - "to daily consider others better than themselves" and to set a Godly example for them, supernatural provision for funds for my trip - for me not to listen to the lies of the enemy and the condemnation he has been trying to feed me, provision for what we need to take for the orphans and other families in Zimbabwe and supernatural strength for the people of Zimbabwe to stand strong in their faith as their elections approach at the end of this month.

Rom 10:17
... So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

We will be sending out an email soon to all the prayer partners and others who would like to be involved in writing letters of encouragement to the orphans and helping us gather some supplies we would like to be able to take with. So please be praying about your involvement and where the Lord would use your gifts to make a difference in the life of those who have so much less than us.

Mar 12:41-44
Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much.
Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans.
So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury;
"for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood."

I daily have to learn to be content with what I have, the Lord gifts us all in different ways so we may all come together as one body and bring Him glory. Never think you cannot do great things for God, the Lord can accomplish His work without us, but in His grace He allows us to partner with Him and give of what we do have, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem.

IF YOU HAVE NOT SIGNED UP TO BE A PRAYER SPONSOR FOR ANY OF THE ORPHANS BUT WOULD LIKE TO WRITE A LETTER OR HELP BUY SOME SUPPLIES FOR OUR TRIP COMING UP IN MAY/JUNE, PLEASE CALL ME ON 847 1177 OR EMAIL ME AT d_jgray@bellsouth.net so I can add you to the list and keep you updated.

Have a blessed day

ISAIAH 61

Isa 61:2
He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord's favor has come,[fn2] and with it, the day of God's anger against their enemies.
Isa 61:3
To all who mourn in Israel,[fn3] he will give beauty for ashes, joy instead of mourning, praise instead of despair. For the Lord has planted them like strong and graceful oaks for his own glory.
Isa 61:4
They will rebuild the ancient ruins, repairing cities long ago destroyed. They will revive them, though they have been empty for many generations.
Isa 61:5
Foreigners will be your servants. They will feed your flocks and plow your fields and tend your vineyards.
Isa 61:6
You will be called priests of the Lord, ministers of our God. You will be fed with the treasures of the nations and will boast in their riches.
Isa 61:7
Instead of shame and dishonor, you will inherit a double portion of prosperity and everlasting joy.

FORGOTTEN? – MAYBE, BUT NEVER FORSAKEN!
“The Lord himself goes before you, he will never leave you nor forsake you, do not be afraid, do not be discouraged. Deuteronomy 31:8

AFRICA – a land steeped in mystery and intrigue – to me the place I still call home, having been born and raised in South Africa till the age of 23. If you look at a map of Africa and go all the way down to the bottom – you will see South Africa then look to the NE and you will see Zimbabwe. It is nation quite like any other in this current age in that having in the past been called the breadbasket of Africa, it now has a struggling economy and currently has the world’s highest inflation rate, officially at over 8,000% but realistically well over 10,000% and climbing, it also has one of the world’s highest AIDS and orphan rates in proportion to its population, average life expectancy is around 36 years and increasing numbers of the people have either left the country or been eradicated by aids and food shortages in the past few decades. It is a country you won’t often hear much about in the media, and if you do it is usually very depressing and seemingly like a country forsaken by God. This was my view of Zimbabwe until I went there a few months ago on a missions trip, and oh how wrong I was, the stats are very true, but God is very much alive and well hand thriving in this somewhat forgotten nation.

Life in Zimbabwe is hard – food is hard to come by, stores are literally empty in this spiraling economy and then when it is to be found it can be very expensive, power and water outages are the norm for many hours of each day, yet this shrinking nation of forgotten people are thriving. Not in the sense that we might equate success to in the US – but thriving in God’s realm. I truly believe they have learnt what life is about – in their poverty they have come to live a simple life, free of a lot of the worldliness we have, a life where they look out for each other – they have learnt about community, looking out for each other and have chosen to praise God in the midst of their trials. When we have nothing in this life we can either curse God and wish for death or we can embrace our Creator knowing that He has a plan for our lives and that He does cause all things to work together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purposes – Romans 8:28. In as much as these people struggle I truly believe from what I experienced there that they are embracing God in knowing that He and He alone is their sole provider and that He will be the one to bring change in their nation - without all the distractions of a modern life, they have learnt how to freely worship God.

Education is still highly regarded and even though literacy rates are declining - down to 80% from around 90% a decade ago, Zimbabwe in years gone by has led the continent in having one of the highest literacy rates. The younger generation value education and most teenagers you meet can speak good English(as this is still the official language) they have a good knowledge of God and the bible, as they are both still widely taught and valued in the education system. One group of boys we met at a local church, spoke such good English I questioned them as to how they spoke so well, and they said that amongst their friends they competed to see who could speak better English, as they saw the importance of it to get somewhere in life. Unfortunately for a lot of the recent graduates from high school – jobs and further education are far out of reach, but they still dream big, believing God to provide a way. Surprisingly too as a homeschooling mom I was pleased to see that homeschooling, is not a foreign concept here, it is becoming a cheaper and more widely used source of education as the cost of uniforms and school fees continue to rise in public and private schools.

As we did ministry and met people from all different walks of life - from the joyful singing orphans we met whose motto they are taught is: Happy times praise God, Difficult times seek God, Quiet times worship God, Painful times trust God, to the white farmers who have lost all they worked for all their lives, yet believe God has called them to stay and be a part of His work there, to the educated teenagers who are eager for change in their country, to the blue color workers who want a better future for their children, to the poverty stricken people living in remote areas; they all had one thing in common – God – the sustainer of all life and everyplace we went they all echoed this wonderful chorus (in their native tongue Shona) which loosely translated mean:
There’s no-one there’s no-one like Jesus, there’s no-one there’s no-one like him, I’ve run everywhere, I’ve searched everywhere, there’s none there’s none like him. As Christians we serve a very big and awesome God, one that does not live in box, in Zimbabwe I learned a lot about living outside the box, about how in stepping outside my comfort zone and being obedient to what God asks me to do – I find true freedom in Christ. This newfound freedom I found in stepping outside of my box allowed me to encourage and pray for the people we met over there.

It is hard for me to describe my trip other than it was truly blessed of the Lord. Sometimes as a stay home mom – you can almost feel forgotten. In the seven years I have been blessed with being home with my children I have seen many moms frustrated by feeling like they are not doing great things for God – myself included. I put my yearning to be involved in overseas missions in a box for many years, ignoring the burden the Lord had on my heart, thinking I can’t go! my kids are little! I homeschool!, but be encouraged, that God will never leave you nor forsake you, just like He has not forgotten each and every person in Zimbabwe, he sees their struggles and He sees our daily struggles as we seek to give of ourselves to raise our children in a world that might scorn or mock us for what we do. A devotion I read that really ministered to me and allowed me to think outside the box was:

There is no possibility of questioning when God speaks if He speaks to His own nature in me; prompt obedience is the only result. The promises of God are of no value to us until by obedience we understand the nature of God. We read some things in the Bible three hundred and sixty five times and they mean nothing to us, then all of a sudden we see what God means, because in some particular we have obeyed God, and instantly His nature is opened up. (Oswald Chambers – my Utmost for His highest)

One thing the wonderful people of Zimbabwe taught me was to not be overwhelmed or frustrated by the big things in life you feel you can’t do, don’t look at your circumstances and try tell God how you can or can’t do it, just be obedient to the call He puts on your life, He will take care of the details, and I witnessed this daily there as people rely on God for their daily sustenance . I was so blessed to go on this my first missions trip and am eternally thankful to the many saints in my life who were obedient to the call God placed on their lives to help send me, who helped care for my family, who prayed for our team and the ministry we did. We can tend to look at the big things that we want to accomplish, but forget that the small things all add up in God’s economy, a house is not built with one big brick, it takes many bricks laid one on the other, that are built on a solid foundation – such is God’s kingdom.

My challenge to you all is to step outside the box – BE BOLD, PRAY DANGEROUSLY (read Daniel 9-11)! Expect God to answer your prayers – in His time and way. Seek out the areas in your life where you are curious and weak and be bold in knowing God will meet you there, our God is the God of the impossible! Know that you are God’s favorite – you don’t need to be anyone else’s, you are loved with the love that God had for Jesus when He sent Him to die for our sins.

One neat story I would like to share is of a pastor’s wife we worked alongside in Zimbabwe. We were going into a rural area to minister to a church plant they had, and as we set off on our two day trip, she reminded me that they had to move in two days, after renting their home for 6 years, I was flabbergasted – didn’t she have to pack? to find a new home? – I know it took me weeks to get organized when we moved – but my sweet new friend just simply said, well we don’t have much (her family of 4), so it won’t take long and God will provide– this lady who didn’t have much herself was free to go minister to those who had even less because she wasn’t bound by her worldly possessions.

If I had to sum up in one thing what I learned from the people of Zimbabwe, it would be to live a simpler life, a life free to worship and serve God when He calls. Being a stay home mom in this age calls us to be set apart from the world, but I truly believe it is God’s best that we can do for our children. Be thankful when the house is a mess, when the school books are scattered all over and the laundry isn’t done, knowing that you are doing great things for God in raising your children, and know that God will fulfill the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4) and allow you to be used in mighty ways. Clear out the junk – maintaining your stuff takes time, say no to busyness – it will free you up to say yes to God.

Remember the people of Zimbabwe – God does! They have dreams and hopes for a better future just like we do. Keep it simple, go where God is and expect Him to do great things in your life!

Welcome to our life!!

Well I have finally sucummed to the modern age. My friend and neighbor Donna has one of these and everytime I see it I think I should do one especially since we are so far from a lot of our family and friends. So here we are the Grays blogspot!!
